La Robla Green is Europe's most innovative integrated green energy generation project and will feature two large, state-of-the-art facilities working synergistically:
- Roblum is the first carbon-negative green biomass energy generation plant , capable of generating energy for nearly 50,000 homes. Biomass is a renewable energy source derived from the controlled combustion of organic agricultural waste. These wastes amount to millions of tons, some of which are unused.
- La Robla Nueva Energía is the largest green e-methanol plant in Europe . At its facilities, CO₂ extracted from the Roblum biomass power plant is mixed with green hydrogen to create a next-generation product. This is an essential product for decarbonizing two sectors struggling to reduce emissions from their activities: the chemical industry and transportation.
The project will be located in the El Crispín industrial estate in La Robla, a Just Transition Zone whose population has declined since the closure of the thermal power plant and the extinction of the mining industry.
