Description

Methyl ethyl sulfide (CH3—S—CH2—CH3) is an organosulfur compound belonging to the class of dialkylthioethers, where a sulfur atom connects a methyl and an ethyl group. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohols and oils. It has a pungent, characteristic odor. It is used as an odorant in natural gas.
