Coal Gasification and Chemical Manufacturing Operations
Lu'an Chemical Group operates several major coal gasification and chemical manufacturing facilities:
Lu'an High-Sulfur Coal Clean Utilization Integrated Project - Located in Wangqiao Industrial Park, Xiangyuan County, Shanxi Province, this flagship demonstration project integrates oil, chemicals, electricity, and heat production. The facility features four large-scale air separation units producing over 10,000 tons/day of oxygen and 6,000 tons/day of nitrogen, four gasifiers, and two syngas purification systems. The gasifiers utilize Shell powder coal gasification technology and represent the world's largest Shell gasification units. In 2017, Air Products and Lu'an Clean Energy formed a joint venture (with Air Products holding 60% equity) to own and operate the gasification and syngas facilities.
The project employs Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology and includes a 120,000 tons/year coal-to-oil demonstration plant using high-temperature slurry bed iron-based catalysts, with a supporting 12,000 tons/year FT synthesis catalyst production facility already operational.
