The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE), known in Polish as Giełda Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie (GPW), is the largest stock exchange in Central and Eastern Europe. Located in Warsaw, Poland, it was founded in 1817 and operates from the Exchange Center Building in the city’s Śródmieście District. The WSE facilitates trading in equities, bonds, derivatives, and commodities, and is recognized as a leading financial institution in Poland.
As of 2025, the WSE lists over 400 companies, including both domestic and international firms, with a total market capitalization of nearly PLN 2 trillion (over USD 500 billion). The Polish government is the majority owner of the exchange. Key indices include WIG20, WIG30, mWIG40, and sWIG80. The WSE also plays a major role in the region’s economic growth and is a member of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges.
